Peter Crouch slams decision to rule out Willian Jose's header for Wolves against Fulham
Peter Crouch has hit out at the decision to disallow Willian Jose's header for Wolves in their victory away to Fulham on Friday night.
With the game goalless, Jose found the net in the first half but the goal was ruled out, with his team-mate Daniel Podence deemed to have been in an offside position.
Podence's arm was deemed to have been slightly offside, with referee Jonathan Moss not allowing the goal to stand after VAR was consulted.
Although Wolves still managed to prevail with 1-0 victory, which was secured courtesy of a late strike from Adama Traore, the disallowed goal was the key post-match talking point.
Crouch stressed that he would be 'absolutely fuming' if he was Willian Jose.
Speaking on BT Sport, Crouch said: 'If I'm Willian Jose I'm absolutely fuming. He's not scored for 11 games. He's got across his man and powered a header in. What is it? Not even a sleeve is it. It was a lovely move.
'Great header and ruled out for that. I'd be so angry. If you haven't scored for a while and started at a new club and it gets ruled out. It's like a get out of jail free card. No one had any clue it was offside.
'No one is claiming for it or wanted it. By letter of the law that's what the referees have to do but if you're Willian Jose it doesn't make you any less upset.
'This decision angers me. I don't know what happened to benefit of the doubt being with the attacker. That's just absolutely ridiculous. No fault to officials whatsoever that's the letter of the law, but the letter of the law has got to change.
'There's got to be clear daylight or something. We can't sit here and talk about sleeves and arms. Willian Jose hasn't scored in 11, is desperate to get off the mark and it's been pulled up for something for not even millimetres.'
The incident is the latest in a series of controversial decisions stemming from the use of VAR.
Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo was disappointed with the decision and spoke to the officials after the game.
Nuno's side are in 12th place in the Premier League following their victory.
They must look into it
